No Hair November: ABCs of Military Life

N is for No Hair November (& Mustache March)

Before meeting my husband I had no idea about No Hair November or Mustache March, and I envy those days of not knowing. For those that don’t know both were started as good-natured protests against Air Force grooming regulations. Basically it is an opportunity to drive your spouse nuts.

No Hair November

Our first year dating my husband decided to participate in No Hair November, which for some reason consists of shaving ones head. If you know my husband he doesn’t have a whole lot of extra hair on his head, so you would think shaving his head wouldn’t be that big of a deal.

Wrong.

Seeing him for the first time with his shiny shaved head made the hair on his chest seem fuller for some reason. His bald head was a few shades lighter than his tanned face. It was a look. Since we had just really started dating I didn’t say anything, it was only for a month.

The next year, we were talking about  moving in together and I felt a little more obligated to voice my opinion. So, when I saw his shaved head for the first time I remember the conversation clearly.

G: So what do you think?

Me: Well, umm, you do know you don’t have a lot of extra hair to spare, and…um…it might not come back if you keep doing that.

G: *walks away*

I think that is the last time he completely shaved his head in November….I am sure it won’t be the last No Hair November he participates in because eventually, he may not have to worry about it not growing back. **sorry babe, love you**

Mustache March

As you can guess, it means growing a mustache for the month of March. However when it comes to the military it means growing and maintaining a military approved mustache. And I would guess there are a lot of spouses out there that can agree that a military mustache can’t be pulled off by everyone.

April 1st is my favorite day of the year. I bet you might be able to guess why.
