3 Positives of a PCS Move!

Always look for the Positives in a move

Every time my husband brings home PCS orders (meaning it is time to move) there are feelings of excitement and fear. There is always a lot of craziness that comes along with a move, but there is also a lot of good. I like to focus my energy on the positives that come along with every move and because of that I have created my top 3 Positives of a PCS Move.

  1. It is a Great Opportunity for Family Bonding: During the move it may not always feel like family bonding, sometimes it feels like fighting. Overcoming each obstacle as a family creates memories that will not soon be forgotten. During one of our moves we had been driving all day and my husband and I were both tired and getting cranky when we decided to stop for dinner.  When our food arrived my husband picked up his steak knife and began cutting his mashed potatoes. I started laughing hysterically at that point, we decided driving was no longer a good idea. It was time to find a hotel for the night. To this day when we ask, “how tired are you on a  scale of 0-Cutting mashed potatoes with a steak knife?”
  2. New Adventures: Each new location comes with new museums, zoos, aquariums, parks, restaurants, local produce and beautiful sights. New experiences are around every corner.  We have toured beautiful historical sites, tried fresh local food, held a baby alligator, saw a (very tiny and up close) tornado, saw beautiful natural wonders, and so much more. One of my husband and my favorite things to do every move is to drive around find the best local wineries. Nothing is better than a good local wine!
  3. It Makes Redecorating Easy: When it comes to decorating our home, I always have a new find that I want to up-cycle that will lead to rearranging an entire room.  Heck last month I rearranged the entire kitchen. My husband came home from work one night and went to get a drinking glass, when he asked where they all went…I told him the glasses are now where the spices used to be….his only response, “of corse they are.”  Each move gives us the opportunity to change something we didn’t love about the previous location’s decor!

To some moving every couple of years sounds terrible, to others it may sound like a wonderful adventure. I like to remind myself that, we never live anywhere for too long, so it is important to remember it is a wonderful adventure and each move helps my family grow both personally and together at the same time. We are lucky to explore so many wonderful places, and even luckier to be able to explore these places together.

It is amazing how much we accumulate at every location. I am trying really hard to simplify our life and get rid of everything that no longer fits our families needs.

  1. Well, no wonder we get itchy about the fact that we’ve been here 9 years. I am dying to redecorate! :)

Great post and I love the positivity.

  2. How fun! We just PCS to Hawaii and man that was a tough one. We’ve PCS’d without children but now that we have our LO in tow that was even more of a challenge. Of course the same can be said for just moving down the street too! Haha which we are about to do. Poor little guy has moved 4 times now since he has been born.

I love the 0-Cutting Potatoes with a steak knife! hahah
